Standard Life and Shearer Property Group have given the Parkway scheme in Newbury the go-ahead after a string of delays following questions over the project’s viability.

The development partnership had put Parkway on hold while it reassessed the climate surrounding the start of construction work and subsequently renegotiated contracts with the construction company.

Parkway was first granted consent to proceed with the scheme more than two years ago. Work will now start in October and is expected to take about two years.

The scheme has also been given a lift by the signing of Debenhams as the anchor tenant.
