Home improvement chain Wickes originally targeted the heavy end of the DIY market and trade sector, but has repositioned itself to appeal to a wider customer base, with a proposition spanning kitchens, bathrooms, paint, flooring, doors and gardening tools. Following Wickes’ interim results, chief executive David Wood and chief finance officer Mark George spoke to Retail Week about trading, future consumer spending, and tackling youth unemployment.
Wickes boss David Wood hailed “another period of strong volume-led performance”, as Wickes sales and profits for the half rose driven by record signs up for the retailer’s trade business.
The government said that the energy-generating devices will start being sold from today, with Currys, B&Q, Screwfix and Amazon to soon start selling the products too.
