Jumia

Launched in Nigeria in 2012, ecommerce startup Jumia aimed to mimic Amazon’s success by delivering a wide range of items, from toys to generators, across Africa.

Jumia’s mission is to be “the most beloved and trusted shopping destination for Africans”. Trading from Algiers to Accra, from Cairo to Kampala, Jumia seems to be well on its way to fulfilling its goal.

The retailer is now the number one ecommerce site in Nigeria offering six million products from more than 10,000 active vendors. It trades across 14 African countries including Kenya, Morocco and Tunisia.

Jumia also operates delivery firm Jumia Logistics and online payments service JumiaPay.
