Thresher Group has formalised its relationship with PayPoint by signing a five-year exclusive contract with the bill payment terminal operator.

PayPoint is at 300 out of 720 of Thresher’s The Local stores.

Thresher Group operations director Alun Johnson said that the retailer is keen to have PayPoint terminals at more The Local stores to improve its convenience offer. “Often, we are the only shop open after 6pm in the communities we serve. PayPoint brings people into stores,” he said.

He added that Thresher is considering further extending the opening hours and categories at its The Local stores.

PayPoint also runs an ATM network and mobile phone discount coupon scheme.
Johnson said nothing was definite in terms of broadening the services PayPoint offers through Thresher stores. However, he added: “One reason for the partnership is to look at the opportunities.”
