Grocery retailer Rewe has opened its first Rewe Center store in Bavaria, which the company says could be a blueprint for the superstore format across the country.

The 27,985 sq ft store in Munich offers 22,000 products and focuses on freshness. Another special feature is the variety of regional and local products available.

The store has a separate beverage department of 5,815 sq ft with direct access to the car park. Rewe Group is reportedly considering converting at least some of its Toom hypermarkets and superstores to the Rewe Center banner.
