A 'cataclysmic'£50 million of profit is being wasted every year by underperforming UK shopfitters and their failure to focus on the bottom line, according to a report by shopfitting consultancy Plimsoll.
The report states that almost a fifth of companies are frittering precious resources, resulting in substantial losses. It concludes that around half of all UK shopfitters make less than a 6 per cent return on their annual investment.
Commenting on the numbers, Plimsoll analyst David Pattison said: 'These figures show just how competitive the UK shopfitting industry has become. The ability to make a profit is becoming the exception, not the norm.'
