Retail Solutions - Hardware swap speeds up tills at Goldsmiths

Jewellery retailer Goldsmiths has saved£25,000 in infrastructure costs by swapping its obsolete Cisco 761 routers for Allied Telesyn hardware.

The move is part of Goldsmiths' bid for Chip and PIN compliance.

The upgrade ensures that transaction data can be sent to the retailer's acquiring bank at the speed needed to authorise payments at the till.

Goldsmiths financial director Steve Sargeant said: 'We made the decision to become Chip and PIN compliant because we could not bear the cost of fraudulent transactions being taken from our bottom line.'

All of Goldsmiths' 166 stores have been upgraded.
