Retail Property - Harry Corry snaps up Scottish Texstyle World stores

Harry Corry has expanded its Scottish operations dramatically in a multi-million pound deal with the administrator of Texstyle World.

The Belfast-based household furnishings retailer has paid an undisclosed seven-figure premium for the assignment of Texstyle World's retail park stores in Bishopsbriggs, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Clydebank, Livingstone and Uddingston.

A further 12,000 sq ft (1,115 sq m) store at Spring-kerse Retail Park in Stirling has been taken by Harry Corry on a 15-year lease at£16 per sq ft (£172 per sq m), following its surrender by Texstyle World.

Harry Corry, which opened a store at Braehead near Glasgow three years ago to test the Scottish market, will operate a portfolio of eight stores serving Scotland's central belt.

Out-of-town specialist Craig Buchanan at Culverwell, Harry Corry's property agent, said: 'Along with the existing store at Braehead, we specifically chose units within Scotland's central belt to give Harry Corry maximum benefit in terms of servicing efficiency and advertising.'

Negotiations are under way to secure a further two Scottish stores. Buchanan said the retailer was concentrating on the Scottish market and had yet to consider stores south of the border.

Harry Corry operates 34 stores in Ireland, the bulk in the north. As part of the deal with Texstyle World's administrator, Harry Corry has also acquired the lease on a unit at Dublin's Royal Liver Retail Park.

Harvey Spack Field acted for the administrator of Texstyle World.
