Home Bargains swoops for sites

Value homewares retailer Home Bargains has taken four of the former What Everyone Wants stores from administrator Ernst & Young. The discount retailer was wound up last month.

The stores are located in prime or good secondary pitches across the North and the Midlands. At Coalville in Leicestershire, Home Bargains has taken 1,520 sq m at 47-49 the Belvoir Shopping Centre; held on a lease expiring in 2016 at£70,050 a year. In Birmingham, it has taken Unit 12 at the One Stop Shopping Centre, Perry Bar, totalling 740 sq m and held on a lease expiring in 2015 at a passing rent of£121,236.

In Preston, Lancashire, it has taken 29 Market Place, providing 1,410 sq m and held on a lease expiring in 2019 at a passing rent of£130,000 a year. And in Oldham, Greater Manchester, it has taken 1,220 sq m at 9 Market Place, held on a lease expiring in 2019 at a passing rent of£145,000 a year.

According to Home Bargains' property adviser Nigel Bennett, the acquisition puts the retailer on target to open a further 20 units this year on top of the 90 existing stores.

He said the requirement is for units with ground floor space of between 745 sq m and 930 sq m.
