Tile specialist Topps Tiles has reported that trading in the first 13 weeks of its new financial period remained positive, despite a tough retail market.

In an AGM statement, co-founder and non-executive chairman Barry Bester said that overall revenue increased 6.9 per cent for the first 13 weeks of the new financial year and like-for-like revenue edged up 0.8 per cent. Topps had previously revealed at its full-year results on November 27 that total revenue increased 8.4 per cent and like-for-like revenues were up 1.1 per cent in the first seven weeks of the new financial period.

In the UK, Topps Tiles has 302 stores, having opened five and closed or relocated four during the year. In this financial period, it wants to open 20 shops. In Holland, it has 20 stores and wants to open five there this year.

During 2007, several changes were made within senior management, including the appointment of Robert Parker as finance director, Matthew Williams as chief executive and Nick Ounstead as business development director.
