St Modwen Properties has been given the approval for a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) and Road Closure Order to pave the way for the redevelopment of Hatfield town centre.

The Hatfield Town Centre East scheme will cover 8 acres of the Hertfordshire town and include retail space, cafés, restaurants and a multi-storey car park.

80 per cent of the scheme is owned by St Modwen in partnership with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and English Partnerships, but the CPO will allow the remaining sections to be bought by the partnership, under compulsory purchase powers.

St Modwen regional manager Rupert Wood said the decisions were a key part in the progress of the scheme. It is a key marker for the project and brings the proposals for redeveloping Hatfield town centre closer to reality.”
