The assistant is designed to understand what customers are trying to ask, even if the command is informal

The tool was introduced today (January 27) and is available to download on iOS and Android, with customers able to use it by clicking on the circle with two stars on the top left of the home screen.

It has launched in the UK first and will enable customers to have a conversation on the app to discover new cuisines, restaurants, meals and non-food categories such as pharmacy, beauty and electrical products.

The AI voice assistant has been designed to tackle the overwhelming choice customers often face and to act as a “personal delivery concierge”, offering tailored recommendations based on interactions, while also speeding up the ordering process.

It is designed to understand what customers are trying to ask, even if the command is vague or informal, so customers can think out loud and receive relevant recommendations.

The assistant can process in dozens of languages and the launch arrives after research from Ofcom found that 38% of households with smart speakers use them to search for answers.

The rollout follows weeks of trials, with the number of conversations increasing every day. Just Eat found a significantly higher conversion rate for those who used the AI voice assistant.

It is integrated within the platform’s chat function and improves accessibility for users with limited mobility or visual impairments.

Just Eat chief technology officer Mert Öztekin said: “We are always innovating and continually focused on leveraging technology to improve the ordering journey for our millions of customers. This custom-built conversational assistant represents a major step forward, making our service more intuitive and accessible.”
