Waitrose has rolled out its Quick Check ‘scan as you shop’ mobile app to all of its stores following a successful trial earlier this year.
The app enables customers to scan product barcodes on their mobiles as they put their goods into their baskets, removing the need for their shopping to be scanned at the checkout.
The roll out across all of Waitrose’s branches comes after the supermarket trialled the mobile app across three of its stores – Clapham Common, Meanwood in Yorkshire and Milngavie near Glasgow – in March.
The scanning tool is available to all myWaitrose customers, all of which are automatically registered for Quick Check and can use the mobile self-scan service in stores by downloading the Android or iOS app and registering their myWaitrose card.
Mark Clifton, head of retail change at Waitrose, said: “We know that customers are shopping little and often and therefore want the experience to be as convenient as possible. Being able to complete a whole shopping experience using only a smartphone means that shoppers can scan as they go, benefit from tailored offers, detailed product information and pay anywhere in the shop. The dynamic world of smartphone technology means that the future capabilities of this app are endless.”
The new tool replicates the ‘scan as you shop’ Quick Check service, where customers are given a handset to scan their shopping as they move round the store. Quick Check is available in two-thirds of Waitrose shops.
