Peter Semple will take on the permanent role of chief executive on August 1

Peter Semple will take on the role on a permanent basis from August 1 after being part of the Depop team for six years.

He first joined as chief marketing officer, with the role of shaping the vision and creativity of the business.

Depop owner Etsy inc chief executive Josh Silverman said: “As a leading resale platform, Depop is at the heart of the circular fashion movement and has seen remarkable momentum in recent years.

“During Peter’s time as interim chief executive officer, he demonstrated not only a proven ability to lead and inspire teams, but showed his dedication to the Depop mission and its community. He brings a strong understanding of Depop’s position in culture and resale and we couldn’t be more confident in his vision for the future.”

In addition to a new boss, Depop has rolled out new features including an integration of AI photo editing tools through a partnership with Photoroom.

The tool can remove backgrounds, enhance images with drop shadows, resize assets for different settings and product types, and generate on-brand visuals in a few seconds.

It enables sellers to save time and enhance their imagery.

In the past year, Depop has added a host of AI-powered features to help sellers grow while buyers can search for the products they are looking for.

This includes predictive recommendations, smarter pricing suggestions, and enhanced search and personalisation.
