Discounter Aldi has unveiled a new £22m investment in slashing prices, as it looks to help customers “continuing to feel the pressure of the weekly shop”.
The discount grocer today [February 3] unveiled price cuts across hundreds of products in its everyday items, fresh and frozen ranges, cupboard staples, and household essentials.
Reductions include red lentils down to 99p, porridge sachets to 79p and oats to £1.99. Aldi said that shoppers can also save 50p on selected products such as flank steak, vegetable pieces and meatballs.
The retailer also unveiled reductions across a wide range of proteins, such as Bolognese mince, pork and gammon joins and selected British cheeses.
Aldi chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield said: “We know that customers are continuing to feel the pressure of the weekly shop, which is why we’re constantly reviewing prices across our range to ensure we offer our customers the lowest possible prices.
“These latest price reductions cover hundreds of everyday products, including a number of healthy options, and form part of our ongoing commitment to delivering great value without compromising on quality.”
The move comes amid a busy start to the year in the ongoing grocery price wars.
Embattled grocer Asda kick-started the year by cutting the prices of thousands of products in a pledge to be cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
The supermarket giant slashed the cost of 2,300 household staples spanning fresh meat, produce, chilled, core grocery and bakery lines is now lower than the loyalty card prices of the supermarket giant’s competitors.
Morrisons chief executive Rami Baitiéh warned on January 21 that he expects food inflation will “go up and up over the coming months”.
The latest grocery market share data from Worldpanel by Numerator published today showed that grocery price inflation eased off in January to 4% – the lowest levels seen since April 2025, but still historically high.
