Aldi is investing in roles, pay and store openings this year

The employment increase is anticipated as Aldi opens 40 more branches in a £370m investment.

The new roles range from cleaners to store managers, with the latter earning up to £69,000 a year.

Aldi HR and talent director Kelly Stokes said: “We want to encourage more people to consider a career in retail, starting with high-quality training and development that gives people the skills and confidence to succeed.

“As we open more stores, we’re creating more opportunities for people to start to build rewarding careers with Aldi. With market-leading pay, clear progression routes and ongoing support, we’re helping more people grow in retail while bringing Aldi’s award-winning, affordable products to more local communities.”

Aldi recently announced a pay rise for staff. From April 1, store assistants will earn £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 within the M25, rising to £14.47 and £15.20 respectively based on length of service.

It is part of a £42m investment in employee pay in 2026. The grocer said it also remains the only big retailer offer paid breaks to staff − a benefit that it said is worth £1,500 per year to the average store staff member.
