Discounter giant Aldi has announced it has earmarked £300m to upgrade and extend its existing UK store network in 2026.

The retailer said that the investment will support “a wide-ranging programme of improvements”, including store extensions and other enhancement upgrades.
Changes will “vary by location” but will include “creating more space to shop and introducing more sustainable features”. The retailer said it would also include “energy-efficient technology such as fridge doors to reduce energy use, and natural refrigerants to help cut carbon emissions”.
Other improvements will include updating fixtures and signs, and redesigning and updating store layouts.
The £300m investment comes on top of the £370m that Aldi committed to spending on opening 40 new stores over the course of 2026.
Aldi chief executive officer Giles Hurley said: “As well as opening new stores, we’re also investing in existing ones to make sure everyone can get what they need from Aldi.
“By extending some stores, and by upgrading and improving others across the country, we can serve even more customers while creating even better shopping environments for our colleagues and shoppers. Together with our new stores, that will mean more people can access Aldi’s high-quality products at unbeatable prices.”
