Health and beauty retailer Rituals is ramping up its Christmas recruitment drive this year, as it prepares for a “big push” this peak season, Retail Week can reveal.

The retailer said it was set to hire 600 new staff this year, compared to fewer than 500 “holiday helpers” it employed last year.
Rituals also said this year it wanted to “take as many of our temporary contracts to permanent contracts if the stores have vacancies” once Christmas is over.
Rituals will be offering temporary staff a mix of eight-hour and 24-hour Christmas sales adviser contracts, with “a level of flexibility to suit each store depending on their needs during the coming golden quarter”.
A Rituals spokeswoman said: “We are super lucky in being a global company that we have some fabulous worldwide campaigns launching to support our recruitment activity and also local initiatives here on the ground to support attraction to our roles”.
Perfume Shop gearing up for Christmas
The Perfume Shop is also gearing up for the festive period, having announced it would be hiring 900 seasonal roles.
The retailer said this would be its biggest Christmas recruitment drive ever and would offer applicants various roles in stores, as well as permanent team leader and store manager roles at some locations.
Rates will start at £12.60 an hour, £13.85 in London, in line with the living wage.
Michelle Fellows, people, sustainability and development director at The Perfume Shop, said: “Christmas is one of the most exciting times of year for our stores, and our seasonal perfume people play a huge role in delivering magical experiences for customers during their scent shopping journey.
“We’re proud to offer fair pay, commission, and wellbeing support for our Christmas sales assistants, as well as a pathway into long-term careers with us. Whether you’re looking for your first retail role or ready to step into management, we’d love to hear from you.”
