The numbers behind the BRC’s new retail crime survey

The British Retail Consortium’s latest crime report shows that violence and abuse against staff fell last year. However, while the numbers are trending in the right direction, the report also lays bare how much there is still to do.

The report covers the period from September 1 2024, to August 31 2025, covering the period when the government launched its Crime and Policing Bill and the Tackling Retail Crime Together strategy was launched by the National Business Crime Centre, supported by £2m in Home Office funding.
