Asda’s chief digital officer Matt Kelleher has left the business with immediate effect, sparking a senior team reshuflle at the grocer.
The grocer’s executive chair Allan Leighton informed staff that Kelleher, who had led the brand’s ‘Project Future’ decoupling of its IT systems from former owner Walmart, would leave the business “as of today”, according to The Grocer.
The retailer is using Kelleher’s departure to restructure its headquarters functions and reporting lines, as Leighton looks to press on with his turnaround strategy for the embattled grocer.
Asda’s IT and systems teams will now be led by current chief information officer Marcus Shaw, and chief technology officer Adrian Berry. Meanwhile the retailer’s online and analytics teams will be spearheaded by Barney Burgess, who will now move into the customer team, working under chief customer officer Rachel Eyre.
David Devaney’s ecommerce team will now also report into Liz Evans, George managing director and chief commercial officer for non-food and retail.
“We can confirm that Matt Kelleher has left Asda today,” an Asda spokesman told the publication.
“After more than 15 years in senior executive roles at Asda and elsewhere, Matt has decided the time is right to pursue a new direction. We wish him well for the future”.
Kelleher joined Asda 15 months ago from Morrisons, as the Leeds-based retailer’s first ever chief technology officer.
