Retailers affected by yesterday’s Cloudflare outage are now reported to be back up and running following payment and checkout issues.
Cloudflare, which provides a range of internet services and is used by many businesses, saw many of its users unable to access retail sites or certain checkouts.
The company said on Tuesday, November 18: “Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted.
“We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate. More updates to follow shortly.”
Outage monitoring site Downdetector showed retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Ikea, Asda, Vinted and Boots were affected, along with platforms including Spotify, ChatGPT, X and Zoom.
Retail Week understands that Boots’ in-store payment systems were temporarily affected on Tuesday, but Boots.com and the app were not affected by the outage.
Cloudflare said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon: “A fix has been implemented and we believe the incident is now resolved. We are continuing to monitor for errors to ensure all services are back to normal.”
It later added: “Some customers may be still experiencing issues logging into or using the Cloudflare dashboard.”
The outage came less than a month after an outage of Amazon Web Services halted the use of thousands of sites and services.
