Marks & Spencer has started trading online again after weeks of disruption since it was hacked by cybercriminals.

M&S website back online

M&S has resumed online sales for the first time since the Easter weekend

Marks & Spencer, which expects the attack to cost it around £300m, recommenced selling on its website this morning.

The retailer has started with the reintroduction of popular clothing lines. Other products, such as food hampers, will be added in the coming weeks.

The resumption of online trading comes almost two months after the attack on M&S over the Easter bank holiday weekend, leading first to the disruption of payments and click-and-collect and then to the suspension of selling through its website. The incident also caused some food availability problems in stores.

The retailer posted about its online return on social media and said: “We are bringing back online shopping this week. A selection of our best-selling fashion ranges will be available for home delivery to England, Scotland and Wales.

“More of our fashion and beauty products will be added every day and we will resume deliveries to Northern Ireland and click and collect in the coming weeks. Thank you sincerely for your support and for shopping with us.”

When M&S reported strong full-year results last month, chief executive Stuart Machin said that the attack had been “the most challenging situation we’ve encountered” but that the “window of disruption” had prompted the company to accelerate its investment in technology.
