Supermarket giant Asda is more than doubling its electric vehicle home shopping fleet with more than £1m in investment.

The fleet of vehicles will now reach a total of 194 as the retailer continues to invest in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions across the business.

The rollout will start this month as Asda invests £1.3m into an additional 112 home delivery vans and charging points at stores across the UK.

It first introduced its electric delivery fleets at its stores in Gillingham Pier, Old Kent Road and Sheffield Chaucer in 2023.

By September, this is set to expand to 21 stores, which will operate a fully electric home delivery van fleet in the UK.

In the year ahead, electric vehicles are set to make over one million deliveries across the 21 stores. It will also help to save 1700kg of CO2 emissions per year.

Asda senior director, ecommerce last mile Emma Newton said: “We’re always looking at how we can better serve our customers and for new ways to reduce our carbon emissions as a business, so we’re delighted to be more than doubling our electric fleet of grocery home shopping vehicles.”
