Independent grocery chain Booths has hailed a record Christmas period, driven by what the retailer said was its service, quality and availability.

For the three weeks to January 4, 2025, sales were up 9.3% – an 8.3% jump on revenues for the previous year’s Christmas period.

Booths said its busiest day during Christmas was December 23, and that overall sales were up 6.7% – a record for the business over the festive period.

The retailer reported that butcher counter sales jumped 16% in December, while fruit and vegetable sales were up 10% during the same period. Food-to-go sales, meanwhile, were up by double digits, while café sales leaped by 17%.

Booths managing director Nigel Murray said: “Booths really does love Christmas, and this is reflected in our strong performance again this year.

“Customers trust us to provide the best quality and store experiences and we are delighted to deliver.

“Our teams work year-round to develop delicious new products for our customers across Booths Country.

“We focus equally as much on making the Christmas shopping experience a real pleasure, from sharing our Christmas book full of recipes and inspiration, to great instore events and tastings that share our love of great food and drink.”
