Upmarket Northern grocer Booths has toasted “another record-breaking Christmas”, with sales growth driven by an uptick in click-and-collect orders from the retailer’s members.

Food-to-go sales jumped 9.5% during the period

For the three weeks to January 3, Booths reported a 3.8% uptick in like-for-like sales, while like-for-like sales across December jumped 4.9%. This represented a third consecutive year of record Christmas sales growth for the retailer and marked 24% growth in sales over the festive period for the brand over that three-year period.

Like-for-like sales through pre-order and click-and-collect jumped 9.5% over the period, with half of all sales in this channel being driven by Booths cardholders.

In terms of products, Booths said sales of turkeys were up 12%, cheese sales jumped 4%, and pigs in blankets were up 4.6%. Baked goods sales jumped 4.6%, while sales of mince pies were up 5.3%, and Christmas biscuits jumped 14%.

The retailer said its investment during the year in its café and hospitality experiences also reaped rewards, with like-for-like sales in the channel growing 12.3%. Food-to-go sales also jumped 9.5% during the period, driven by the launch of its hot festive baguette, festive and freshly made sausage roll.
