The retail implications and opportunities of an ageing population will be explored at a special seminar organised by the National Retail Research Knowledge Exchange Centre (NRRKEC).

The NRRKEC was created to ensure that unique academic research on retail reaches the industry’s decision-makers and informs business strategies.

Speakers at the event include Professor Patricia Schofield, who leads the Centre for Future Ageing Research at Anglia Ruskin University, and Dr Robert Zniva, from the Institute for Retailing and Marketing at Vienna University, an expert in the consumer behaviour of older customers.

The event is likely to be of particular interest to food and fashion retailers, said Professor Kim Cassidy, who is leading the NRRKEC project.

At the seminar, the NRRKEC’s Retail Research Directory will also be launched. It is designed to be “a unique resource which provides a searchable database of recent retail research pulled together by academics”.

The directory includes brief summaries of research using non-academic language in order to highlight the value of such work to the industry.

The by-invitation event will be held at Nottingham Trent University on Friday, July 14.
