Maternity and nursery equipment retailer Mamas & Papas has invested in Progress Software's OpenEdge enterprise application development platform.
The retailer hopes to breathe life into its portfolio of bespoke solutions, which run off DEC's ageing VMS system. According to Progress, Hewlett Packard - the ultimate inheritor of DEC's customer base - is no longer supporting DEC products.
As well as enabling Mamas & Papas to adopt a real-time polling technique, the system has also allowed it to become more flexible at Point of Sale.
The system is able to take into account the varied VAT status of the retailer's products, some of which qualify for a reduction in VAT.
'Flexibility is key,' said Mamas & Papas IT director Chris Greenwood.
'Progress provides us with an easy and quick development environment and a robust database, upon which we are happy to trust our business.'
