Property News - October opening for Castel Romano

The first phase of McArthurGlen's new 22,000 sq m Castel Romano factory outlet centre outside Rome will open in October, the developer has announced.

The centre, 25 kilometres outside the Italian capital, will provide 95 stores and parking for 2,000 cars, and has drawn its inspiration from local architecture and the look of imperial Rome. Castel Romano is expected to attract up to 5 million visitors a year.

McArthurGlen Europe chief executive Gary Bond said: 'Castel Romano will be the first designer outlet in this part of Italy, and will strengthen our competitive edge in the Italian market. The outlet is in a very strong location with a high population density and a booming tourism industry.'

The developer entered the Italian market in September 2000, when it opened the first phase of its Serravalle outlet to the south of Milan. More than 6.5 million people have visited Serravalle, which has expanded to 33,500 sq m, providing 146 stores let to brands including Prada, Versace and Bulgari.

'The success of Serravalle has made Castel Romano an even more exciting prospect for us,' said Bond.
