Aldi pay rates will rise to £14.35 within the M25, increasing with length of service

From Monday September 1, in-store colleagues will receive a minimum of £13.02 per hour, including an increase to £13.95 with length of service.

Within the M25, the rates are rising from £14.05 per hour to £14.35, increasing to £14.66 with length of service.

Aldi UK chief executive Giles Hurley, said: “The higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay.”

“Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we’re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do.”

This marks the second increase in pay for Aldi staff this year, while they also enjoy the exclusive benefit of paid lunch breaks worth approximately £1,425 per year.

As Aldi establishes itself as a sector leader in staff pay, other retailers are struggling to meet the demand for higher employment costs.

British Retail Consortium chief executive Helen Dickinson said: “Local, flexible retail jobs are a vital stepping stone for many people.”

“While [demands for higher staff pay] will impact employment, the government must consider how its future policies can mitigate this, making it easier for businesses to employ people.”

“This includes ensuring the Employment Rights Bill improves workers’ rights without hampering job creation at this crucial time.”
