Online giant Amazon has awarded frontline staff an inflation-busting pay rise.

Operations employees at Amazon will receive a 5.9% increase from the end of this month. That will bring the minimum pay packet to £29,744 a year, represents a 43% increase since 2022.

From September 28, Amazon’s minimum starting pay will increase to between £14.30 and £15.30 per hour, depending on location, for all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal staff.

Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said: “Our UK frontline employees are essential to our success, which is why we’re proud to increase our minimum starting wage to £29,744 a year.

“Beyond this competitive wage, we offer industry-leading benefits from day one and meaningful career development opportunities for all our employees. This combination of competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and growth potential makes Amazon an attractive place to work – whether someone is starting their first job, taking on a seasonal role, or looking to build a long-term career.”

Such opportunties include Amazon’s Career Choice programme, provides funding for skills development through nationally recognised courses. Approximately 23,000 employees have taken part in the scheme since its introduction in the UK in 2014.

Earlier this year, Amazon revealed plans to invest £40bn in the UK over the next three years, “creating thousands of new, permanent, full-time jobs across the country”.
