Leeds' The Light wins BCSC gong

The British Council of Shopping Centres singled out The Light, a mixed leisure and retail development in Leeds, for a special award at its annual ceremony in London.

The judges hailed the development, on the site of the old Leeds Permanent Building Society headquarters on The Headrow, as 'a superb example of mixed-use urban regeneration'.

Awards also went to Lend Lease's Touchwood in Solihull, and Centros Miller and Delancey's N1 centre in Islington, north London, which were judged the best new shopping centres in the UK.

The Birmingham Alliance's Martineau Place in Birmingham won the refurbishment/extension award.
