One Facebook fan brings 20 additional visits to a typical retail website over a year, and top retailers who have no fans at all can still receive on average 62,000 visits a month from the social network.
According to research from analytics company Experian Hitwise, the site has a core role to play in bringing in visitors.
“Facebook is now the UK’s second biggest source of traffic after Google,” said research director Robin Goad. The network now accounts for 1 in 6 page views in the UK.
While those without a strong presence on the site can still expect to benefit from it, with an average of 62,000 visitors coming from Facebook for top retailers without fans. But those with fans can expect a strong return in terms of traffic with each fan bringing an extra 20 visits a year.
