Habitat boss set 'grass roots' task

Habitat has charged new head of UK retail Mark Hislop with improving both 'grass roots' retail disciplines and profitability at the 40-strong chain.

Hislop replaces Richard Millar, who leaves next month to pursue other opportunities. Millar's dual role included marketing, but the function has been given to Anne-Marie Schwab who has been promoted to group head of marketing and visual retail.

The decision to separate the roles was made by new managing director Jens Nordahl, who joined in the spring.

'I am delighted to be able to put in place both of these new roles,' said Nordahl. 'I believe they are key to the development of our business, through both the focus on grass roots retailing in the UK and the improvement of in-store experience by a closer alignment of visual retail and marketing.'

Formerly Tesco head of non-food, Hislop is conducting a review of the UK estate, which includes new locations in Glasgow and Milton Keynes.

A spokeswoman for Habitat said Hislop is responsible for the UK business.

'He will be charged with continuing the focus of Habitat UK of improving profitability through growth.'

Habitat, which is owned by Ikea parent Ikano, has also linked up with Scandinavian peer R.O.O.M, to sell branded goods through stores in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.
