Waitrose is extending a subscription pass service for customers ordering their groceries online and on its app.

The roll-out of the Waitrose Delivery Pass follows a successful pilot. The scheme enables shoppers to pay upfront for a pass lasting one, six or 12 months and book one order slot per day without any further delivery cost.
Waitrose said that an annual pass would save a customer booking one delivery per week – which would often cost £4, up to £123 annually. A one-month pass costs £8, or £45 for six months and £85 for a year.
Purchasers of a pass will also be entitled to early access to Christmas delivery slots, which become available in September.
Waitrose Online director Laura Burbedge said; “We’re investing in our online business to continuously improve it, giving our customers even greater value and the best possible experience. Thousands of customers signed up for delivery passes through our trial, so we expect to see strong demand across the UK as we roll it out.”
Successful subscription schemes work well for retailers because they lock in customer spend.
The extension of the pass scheme followed Waitrose’s decision last month to give offers to loyalty customers who order on Uber Eats when they link their My Waitrose account to their acocunts.
Last financial year Waitrose sales grew 4.4% to £8.0bn and volumes were up 2.6% as the supermarket attracted more customers.
