Waitrose has invested in a distribution centre at Bristol 360

The grocer has made the investment in a 360,000 sq ft centre at logistics development company Mountpark’s Bristol 360 location, which will be Waitrose’s first DC in the region.

The centre will open towards the end of 2026 and deliver to approximately 50 Waitrose stores and provide “capacity to support new shops”. The investment came as Waitrose embarks on an opening programme including convenience as well as full-line branches.

Its first new supermarket in seven years will debut in 2027 at Brabazon in north Bristol, and a new convenience store will open in The Arches, Bristol, later this year.

Bristol 360 includes many “sustainable features”, such as solar panels and Waitrose estimates that it will reduce annual mileage in its supply chain by 2,225 tonnes of CO2  per year.

Waitrose supply chain director Alison Maffin said; “This multi-million pound investment is an important step in modernising our supply chain and setting us up to build the capacity needed for our growth plans.

“It will enable us to better serve our customers in the region, more efficiently supply our existing shops and reduce our operating costs and carbon emissions. The modern and sustainable features of Bristol 360 make it an excellent fit for our business.”

Waitrose will appoint a logistics supplier to run the site on its behalf.
