Grocery giant Asda has set aside £12m to invest in its store estate in Yorkshire, as part of its bid to modernise its estate and enhance its in-store experience.

To mark Yorkshire Day and Asda’s 60th anniversary, the supermarket giant – which is based in Leeds – has announced it will be spending £7.2m upgrading five stores in the county in Kingswood, Harrogate, York, Pudsey and Keighley by the end of 2025.
A further £4.6m has been set aside to refurbish stores in Grimsby and Stockton, with plans to expand the investment programme to more UK locations in 2026.
Each of the named sites will undergo full store refurbishments with simpler layouts, new lighting and neon signage. Work is slated to begin in September and will take seven weeks for each store.
Asda said all the stores would remain open while the refurbishment work takes place.
The grocer’s chief commercial officer for retail and non-food Liz Evans said: “We’re proud to continue investing in the communities we serve – especially in Yorkshire, where our story began 60 years ago.
“Following the successful refurbishment of our Pilsworth store earlier this year, we’re pleased to share our plans to modernise these Yorkshire stores and further enhance the shopping experience.”
