Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days with festive figures from M&S, Tesco, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons all on the agenda.

Tuesday

Morrisons becomes the first of the big four grocers to report its Christmas trading figures when it updates the market on Tuesday.

The Bradford-based supermarket chain has built momentum under boss David Potts, having registered 12 consecutive quarters of like-for-like sales growth. The City will be expecting that momentum to have continued during the golden quarter.

Fashion business Joules will also post its festive trading figures.

Wednesday

Following hot on the heels of its big four rival, Sainsbury’s heads the list of retailers reporting on Wednesday when it unveils third-quarter numbers.

Majestic Wine and Topps Tiles are also set to post quarterly figures, while Shoe Zone will provide a full-year trading announcement.

Super Thursday

A slew of retailers will update the market with details of their Christmas trading performance on Thursday.

Tesco, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Debenhams are among the businesses due to reveal their golden quarter fortunes on what is being dubbed ‘Super Thursday’.

B&M Bargains Bargains, Quiz, Superdry, Ted Baker, Card Factory and Mothercare will also be in focus during a hectic day in the City, which will provide a clear picture of how Christmas played out for the sector.

As well as updating on festive trading, Debenhams will hold its AGM on Thursday. The meeting could be a fiery affair, with Debenhams’ largest shareholder Sports Direct on the warpath.

Mike Ashley has offered Debenhams a £40m loan to “save” the business, in exchange for 10% of its shares, but the cash injection was rejected by the department store chain’s board.

Friday

AO, Moss Bros and Footasylum round off a busy week on the London Stock Exchange with their Christmas trading updates. The latter two retailers are sure to face particular scrutiny from the City, having both warned on profits during 2018.
