Fashion brand The North Face and luxury jewellery retailer Cartier have said customer data has been stolen in recent cyber attacks.

The two brands are the latest to report cyber attacks following M&S, Co-op, Dior, Harrods and Adidas all recently announcing that each have fell victim to such attacks.

Both brands said financial information was not taken, but data such as customers names and email addresses were.

North Face has emailed some customers to say it found a “small-scale” attack in April this year, while Cartier said â€œan unauthorised party gained temporary access to our system”.

North Face told customers that hackers tried to use usernames and passwords stolen from another data breach to find out if customers have reused the same passwords across several accounts.

Hackers may have been able to access users’ shipping addresses and purchasing histories and affected customers will need to change their passwords.

According to an email sent to Cartier’s customers seen by BBC News, hackers “obtained limited client information”.

It said password and card details were not accessed and that it has â€œcontained the issue and have further enhanced the protection of our systems and data.”

It has reported the incident to the relevant authorities.
