German sportswear giant Adidas has become the latest retailer to be hit by a cyber attack.

Adidas has confirmed it has been hit by a cyber attack in which customersâ personal data has been stolen.
The breach saw criminals obtain âcertain consumer dataâ which âmainly consistsâ of contact information of customers who have previously contacted its customer service help desk.
Adidas said that the data stolen did not include passwords or any credit card or other payment-related information.
Adidas said in a statement published on its website: âAdidas recently became aware that an unauthorized external party obtained certain consumer data through a third-party customer service provider. We immediately took steps to contain the incident and launched a comprehensive investigation, collaborating with leading information security experts.
âThe affected data does not contain passwords, credit card or any other payment-related information. It mainly consists of contact information relating to consumers who had contacted our customer service help desk in the past.
âAdidas is in the process of informing potentially affected consumers as well as appropriate data protection and law enforcement authorities consistent with applicable law.
âWe remain fully committed to protecting the privacy and security of our consumers, and sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident.â
The news comes after a raft of recent cyber attacks on major retailers including Marks & Spencer, Co-op, Harrods and Dior.
It is understood that UK police are investigating a hacker group named âscattered spiderâ as potentially being behind the hacks on M&S, Co-op and Harrods but it remains unclear who is responsible for the latest attack on Adidas.
