Burmese stock banned by JJB's chief executive

JJB Sports has thrown the book at suppliers with Burmese connections after admitting to a stock blunder that brought it to the attention of political campaigners.

Chief executive Tom Knight has written to suppliers warning that the sportswear giant 'will not order any goods manufactured in Burma or under any regime considered to be oppressive at the moment'. Knight says rogue stock deliveries will be returned immediately.

The Burma Campaign UK accused JJB of breaking its ethical business code when it found Burma-made stock in stores this summer, despite a previous no-sourcing pledge.

Campaign director Yvette Mahon said JJB had acted 'swiftly and responsibly'.
