What tangible actions can retailers take to achieve supply chain transformation and future proof their businesses?

From navigating operational inefficiencies and disconnected legacy tech, to managing sustainability pressures and meeting the needs of fickle consumers that demand both fast and eco-friendly fulfilment, retailers have their work cut out for them.

So, what tangible actions can retailers take today to overcome these challenges and achieve supply chain transformation that future proofs their businesses for tomorrow?

Traceability, Trust, Transformation: Supply Chain Tech Solutions for 2026, produced in partnership with Xpedition, a Transparity company, highlights what good looks like and where retailers should be directing their time and money as a result.

From cloud-based data integration and AI agents to quick commerce and AI audits, the flash report gives an overview of the technology driving tangible results for retailers up and down the country. Here, we share a preview of what to expect from the report.

What supply chain solutions are driving retail transformation?

The flash report shares the must-haves of strong supply chains in 2026 and the solutions – many of them AI-powered – to achieving them. Here are just some of the solutions featured:

  • Agentic AI – This technology is providing retailers with a means of combatting rising costs, optimising efficiency and meeting the needs of ever more demanding customers. For instance, retailers can use AI agents to execute tasks such as reordering stock or rerouting shipments with minimal human intervention. Debenhams Group is using AI for this purpose. Its agentic AI technology, launched in November 2025, combines information on stock, pricing and promotions, giving its teams a clearer view of demand and performance.
  • Cloud-based data integration platforms – In 2026, retailers must be savvier with customer data. Those that can integrate data such as preferences, purchase history and real-time behaviour into the supply chain have the power to easily adjust fulfilment routes, personalise offers and reallocate inventory. Lush, for instance, has integrated data from more than 900 retail stores and multiple digital platforms into a central cloud-based repository and can now deliver near real-time analytics.
  • Traceability tech – Being able to provide details on product provenance has become a commercial necessity. The report features data that shows 69% of Europeans factor sustainability into their purchasing decisions, with 73% of consumers saying they are willing to pay more for sustainable products. Retailers are tackling this supply chain challenge by investing in traceability tech. For instance, as of May 2025, New Look has onboarded its entire core supplier base to a tech traceability platform, enabling it to monitor environmental and social risk factors and make informed sourcing decisions.
