Sephora is piloting its app in ChatGPT for US customers in a bid to bring a new AI-enhanced shopping experience.

The app in ChatGPT will assist customers in their discovery journey and provide personalised advice and recommendations.

Customers can use their Sephora loyalty rewards and member benefits, including free shipping promotions and samples. Future updates will also allow payments and checkout directly within the app, although it was recently announced that ChatGPT is stepping back from its instant checkout feature.

The new launch continues Sephora’s path to digital innovation, allowing shoppers to discover, personalise, and later purchase products through an AI-powered interface.

Via ChatGPT, users can ask for specific advice or help. The Sephora app will then appear and recommend answers based on preferences from the customer’s Sephora Beauty Insider account profile, if they have chosen to link this to the app.

Sephora and OpenAI said they are “committed to exploring broader collaboration across Sephora’s global operations”.

Sephora global chief digital officer Anca Marola said: “At Sephora, we are passionate about assisting our customers with the best beauty advice and curation, wherever and whenever they want.

“Today, this means piloting the Sephora app on new intelligent channels such as ChatGPT. We are proud to introduce this experience in the US market, intending to expand this globally.”

Sephora North America ecommerce general manager Nadine Graham added: “Beauty clients around the world are increasingly open to AI-powered guidance, as many use technology to discover brands, trends, and routines.

“By blending our digital retailer expertise with new AI tools, we are creating new seamless and conversational experiences that are not only efficient but helpful for beauty consumers.”
