Former Oz Woolworths boss joins US giant
Retail giant Wal-Mart has revealed that former Woolworths Australia executive Roger Corbett is to join the company, as the 14th member of its board of directors.

Corbett retired as the chief executive of retail chain Woolworths Australia recently, a position he held since 1999. He will now serve on the Wal-Mart board's strategic planning and finance committee with fellow members Aida Alvarez, James Breyer, David Glass, Jack Shewmaker and Jim Walton.

Wal-Mart chairman Rob Walton said: 'Roger has a wealth of experience in international retail operations, including international sourcing. We've admired Roger's leadership for many years. He was instrumental in building Woolworths into the dynamic and successful enterprise it is today in Australia.'

Woolworths is not concerned about the news that Corbett is moving to Wal-Mart. Woolworths Australia chairman James Strong said: 'Roger's appointment, which is personal and independent, does not create any conflict of interest, because Woolworths does not compete with Wal-Mart in any of its markets.'
