Morrisons and Amazon unveiled an early Christmas cracker today with news of their blossoming relationship.

The Bradford-based grocer has extended its deal with the etail giant that will allow same-day delivery of its products via Amazon’s Prime service.

The move, initially in parts of London and Hertfordshire, is another shot in the arm for Morrisons as its barnstorming revival continues under former Tesco man David Potts.

It’s a win-win for both players.

Morrisons’ kudos as an online player is further boosted, while Amazon’s grocery credentials are strengthened.

However, the loser today appears to be Ocado, whose share price has tumbled 8%. Ocado has its own contract with Morrisons and analysts have said it “unclear” what this will mean for the firm.

And whether this will convince the German discount duo – Aldi and Lidl – to fast-track a major move into ecommerce is another one to ponder. Clive Black runs the rule over why the pair have seen their growth slow.

Elsewhere, Currys PC World and AO.com have come under the Which? spotlight, fashion chain Jaeger looks set to leave Bicester Village and Wilko has secured the services of ex-Tesco big-hitter Robin Terrell.
