Naked Wines said it had delivered a “successful” peak trading period across all its markets, despite sales plummeting 19% in the run-up to Christmas.

The specialist wine retailer reported that trading was in line with expectations in the 13 weeks to December 29, and reflected its strategy of recalibrating around the profitable core.

Revenues were down 19% during the period, compared to a 21% decrease the year before. Repeat sales were also down, falling 16%.

However, average order value rose 5% and revenue per member edged up 1%.

Naked Wines chief executive Rodrigo Maza said: “Peak season trading has been pleasing, reflecting the hard work by all our teams to deliver for customers and the focus on our unique customer proposition.

“We continue to make good progress against our strategic KPIs and remain committed to delivering shareholder value.

“Current trading is in line with guidance, and we look forward to providing a more detailed update in our full-year trading update at the end of April.”
