Specialist retailer HMV is set to open its second store in The Netherlands, as it looks to “broaden its reach across Europe”.

HMV is set to open its second Dutch store on Kalverstraat in Amsterdam in March, just months after the retailer opened its first store in the country in The Hague.
The new 4,977 sq ft store will offer 30,000 products and give customers the chance to shop a range of “music, film and TV, pop culture merchandise, technology, and literature” across two floors.
The new store will have over 6,000 different vinyl albums, 7,000 CDs, and over 4,000 films and TV shows across Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD formats.
Its book range includes new fiction, young adult and manga titles, graphic novels and music biographies.
HMV said the new store would help it “strengthen its position in EU markets” following successful store openings in Ireland (Dublin, Limerick and Cork), two in Belgium (Antwerp and Brussels), as well as in The Hague.
The specialist retailer has over 100 stores across the UK and its European expansion “reflects the retailer’s continued confidence in the future of physical retail and renewed focus on prime high street locations”.
HMV and Fopp managing director Phil Halliday said: “We’re constantly striving to create new homes for communities of fans to come together and share their love of music and pop culture.
“From K-pop to classical, heavy metal to EDM, films, anime and books, our new shop in Amsterdam will bring together ranges that can’t be found under one roof anywhere else. We’re confident that we can bring something new to Amsterdam and we can’t wait to open the doors to our new shop in March.
“Opening new shops in mainland Europe and Ireland continues to be the focus of the business as we look to expand overseas, and it is a testament to the team that we have had six successful launches so far, with another to follow in the Dutch capital.”
