Retail Solutions - Staples' solution aims to slash planning time

Office supplies retailer Staples has bought a multi-channel merchandise planning solution from Evant, which is expected to save the retailer up to 200 man-hours a week in extra administration.

The solution enables Staples to consolidate planning pro-cesses that were previously served by 25 separate systems, and allows the retailer to collaborate with suppliers to better predict supply chain and demand across store, Internet and catalogue channels.

The system is used by a community of up to 400 Staples staff, with up to 100 using the system at any one time.

Staples director of merchandise planning and forecasting Mark Bauer said: 'We make buying products easy, no matter what channel the customer uses.

To support this, our systems have to be easy and efficient, while at the same time providing the technology we need to manage our complex cross-channel operations.'
