Property News - Ulla Popken reaches Midlands with Touchwood store opening

German womenswear retailer Ulla Popken has continued its UK roll-out with its first store in the West Midlands.

The retailer has signed a 15-year lease for a 2,260 sq ft (210 sq m) store at Touchwood, Lend Lease's 650,000 sq ft (60,385 sq m) destination mall in Solihull. The store is expected to open in November.

The news follows the decision by Spanish fashion retailer Zara to open a unit in Touchwood during October.

Ulla Popken managing director Martina Monaghan said: 'Touchwood caters for an affluent customer base. Together with its strong retail mix and quality shopping experience, it provides a natural home for us and the customer base that we are looking to target.'

In the past two years, Touchwood has brought more than 16 retailers to the region. Recent arrivals to the centre include Bratz, Oil & Vinegar and Must Eat and Drink.

Touchwood is on target to attract 17 million shoppers in 2003, a 5 per cent increase on last year.
