Retail giants Boots and Sainsbury’s have both unveiled their Christmas recruitment targets, as the sector braces for the busiest trading period of the year.
Grocery giant Sainsbury’s today announced it had opened applications for 19,000 seasonal roles across the UK, with 17,000 based at the grocer and a further 2,000 roles open at Argos.
Health and beauty brand Boots is recruiting for over 6,000 seasonal staff across its stores, warehouse and customer service centre.
The retailer is hiring 4,000 customer advisors, 1,000 customer operations assistants, 1,600 roles at its Beeston and Burton-on-Trent distribution centres, and 350 roles in its Customer Support Centre.
Sainsbury’s said seasonal staff would be provided with free food during shifts and offered a 10% discount at Sainsbury’s and Argos, rising to 15% every Friday and Saturday at Sainsbury’s and on payday at Argos.
Boots meanwhile said seasonal staff would be offered a “competitive hourly rate” and access to its “generous team member discount scheme”.
