Amazon is set to cut thousands more corporate roles as soon as next week, reports say.
The tech giant is planning a second round of job cuts with the wider goal of axing around 30,000 corporate staff, sources told Reuters.
Amazon made 14,000 roles redundant back in October as part of the 30,000 target, with a similar figure expected this time round.
Sources told the publication that the cuts could be made as soon as Tuesday (January 27).
They also said jobs across Amazon Web Services, retail, Prime Video and human resources will reportedly be affected. Industry insiders said the details of Amazon’s plans could change.
The expected 30,000 jobs represent a small part of its 1.58 million global workforce, but nearly 10% of its corporate workforce. It would also represent Amazon’s largest job cut in its history, following the axing of 27,000 jobs in 2022.
Chief executive Andy Jassy told analysts that the October job cuts arose from the “culture” of having too much bureaucracy, after previously relating the cuts to the rise of artificial intelligence.
He also previously warned that Amazon’s corporate workforce is likely to reduce over time due to the efficiencies AI can bring.
